For more than 30 years, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has conducted International Roadcheck. During this event, commercial motor vehicle inspectors will inspect commercial drivers and their vehicles throughout North America. Over the course of three days the CVSA will inspect roughly seventeen vehicles a minute!
This year’s event kicks off on June 4, 2019. There will be a special emphasis placed on specific categories of violations. The focus for 2019 will be on steering components and suspension system. CVSA-certified inspectors will also be completing NAS Level I and Level V inspections, where applicable. CVSA decals will be given to show that the vehicle passed inspection. While steering and suspension is the focus of this year’s event, a full 37-point inspection will still be performed.
If serious violations are found, you run the risk of having the vehicle taken out service! Pre-trip and post-trip inspections are a requirement. They’re also an important key to ensure that your vehicle is safe to drive. It’s imperative that every driver completes a thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspection. Changing road and climate conditions can alter tire pressure, operating temperature, etc. by the time your workday ends. Create a habit of doing a walk around the vehicle at each stop or delivery.
There are increased inspections during the three-day International Roadcheck, but the same inspections are performed all year long.
