One Rung at a Time: Ladder Safety for Truck Drivers

As a professional truck driver, how many times a day do you use a “ladder”? Hint: it’s a lot.

A ladder is defined as a vertical or inclined set of rungs or steps used for climbing up or down something. For truck drivers, that means a ladder can be:

  • The steps you use to climb into or out of your truck
  • Flatbed trailer ladders
  • The stairs you use to go up or down the dock
  • Sidestep ladders
  • Stepping up onto or down from a curb
  • Trailer safety ladders

We believe that all “ladder” accidents are preventable yet we continually see drivers being injured—many times severely—while stepping up and down.

ALI (American Ladder Institute) reveals that the two most common ladder accidents include missing the last step when climbing down and overreaching. Don’t become a statistic. Slow down, take your time, use three points of contact, and STAY SAFE.
